Shield

This shield hangs proudly in our Great Oak Bar commemorating the courtesy that Newport Golf Club extended to the American Servicemen during the 2nd World War. This memory forms part of the history of this Club that stretches back over 100 years. Our link with the United States is also a fact of which we are extremely proud and we extend our particularly warm welcome to anyone visiting from the US.

 

The Shield reads "Presented in September 1945 by the Members of the United States Armed Forces as a token of their appreciation for the courtesies and privileges extended to them by Newport Golf Club During World War II."

 

I am sure you are aware that the Ryder Cup 2010 takes place in our City so there has never been a better opportunity to visit.
